  • Deep Fried Spicy Mushrooms

    Ingredients

    • 24 x mushrooms
    • 2 quart water
    • 1/4 c. lemon juice
    • 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
    • 3 lrg egg
    • 1/3 c. lowfat milk
    • 2 tsp warm pepper sauce
    • 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
    • 1 tsp salt
    • 3 c. bread crumbs
    • 1/2 c. shredded Cheddar cheese
    • 1 tsp dry thyme
    • 1 tsp dry oregano
    • 1 tsp dry basil
    • 1/2 tsp grnd cumin
    • 1/2 tsp dry marjoram
    • 1 1/2 tsp chili pwdr
    • 4 c. oil -- shortening or possibly

    Directions

    1. Trim stems on mushrooms to 1/2-inch length. Wash mushrooms in water with lemon juice added to prevent discoloration; drain well. Toss mushrooms in flour. Make an egg wash: Beat Large eggs, lowfat milk, warm sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and salt together. Toss mushrooms in the egg wash. Combine bread crumbs, grated Cheddar, thyme, oregano, basil, cumin, marjoram, and chili pwdr.
    2. Toss mushrooms in mix then place on rack. Heat sufficient shortening in heavy deep saucepan or possibly deep fryer to make a depth of at least 3 inches.
    3. Heat sufficient shortening in heavy deep saucepan or possibly deep fryer to make a depth of at least 3 inches. Heat to 350-3750 and deep-fry mushrooms, 1 c. at a time, for about 3 min, till golden. While frying, turn to brown proportionately. Drain on paper towels and serve promptly.
