  • Country Fried Steaks

    Ingredients

    • 5 Tbsp. Flour, divided
    • 1/4 c. Corn meal
    • 1/2 tsp Salt
    • 1/4 tsp Pepper
    • 4 x Beef cube steaks
    • 1 x Egg white
    • 1 tsp Water
    • 2 Tbsp. Veg. oil, divided
    • 1 Tbsp. Butter
    • 2 Tbsp. Flour
    • 1 1/2 c. Lowfat milk
    • 1 tsp Beef bouillon
    • 1/2 tsp Dry marjoram
    • 1/2 tsp Dry thyme
    • 1/8 tsp Pepper

    Directions

    1. Combine 3 Tablespoons flour, cornmeal, salt and pepper; set aside.
    2. Coat Steaks with remaining flour. Beat egg white and water; dip steaks, then dredge in cornmeal mix. In
    3. a skillet over medium high heat, cook 2 steaks in 1 Tablespoons oil
    4. for 5-7 min on each side or possibly till crisp, lightly browned and cooked as desired. Remove steaks and keep hot. Repeat
    5. with remaining oil and steaks. Meanwhile, for gravy, heat
    6. butter in a saucepan; stir in flour till well blended.
    7. Gradually add in lowfat milk; bring to a boil over med heat. Boil for
    8. 2 min, stirring constantly; redue heat to med-low.
    9. Add in bouillon, marjoram, thyme and pepper; simmer uncovered
    10. for 4-5 min, stirring occasionally. Serve over steaks.
