    Ingredients

    • 3/4 cup shortening
    • 1 cup packed brown sugar
    • 1 egg
    • 1/4 cup molasses
    • 2 1/4 cups flour
    • 2 tsp baking soda
    • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
    • 1/2 tsp salt
    • Additional sugar

    Directions

    1. In a mixing bowl, cream the shortening and the brown sugar
    2. Add the egg and molasses
    3. Combine the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt
    4. Gradually add to the creamed mixture
    5. Roll into 1-inch balls
    6. Roll in the additional sugar
    7. Place 2 inches apart onto ungreased baking sheets
    8. Bake at 350 F for 10-12 minutes or until the cookies are set and the tops are cracked
    9. Remove to wire racks to cool
