    2 cups flour 2 cups quick-cooking oats 1 1/2 cups sugar 1 1/4 cups butter, softened 1 can ( 21 oz.) cherry pie filling 1 tsp almond extract 1/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips 3/4 tsp shortening

    Ingredients

    • 2 cups flour
    • 2 cup quick-cooking oats
    • 1 1/2 cups sugar
    • 1 1/4 cups butter, softened
    • 1 can (21 oz.) cherry pie filling
    • 1 tsp almond extract
    • 1/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips
    • 3/4 tsp shortening

    Directions

    1. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, oats, sugar, and butter until crumbly
    2. Set aside 1 1/2 cups
    3. Press the remaining crumb mixture into an ungreased 13 x 9 inch baking pan
    4. Bake at 350 F for 15-18 or until the edges begin to brown
    5. In a bowl, combine the pie filling and the extract
    6. Carefully spread over the crust
    7. Sprinkle with the reserved crumb mixture
    8. Bake for 20-25 minutes longer or until the edges and topping are lightly browned
    9. In a microwave or heavy saucepan, melt the chocolate chips and
    10. shortening
    11. Stir until smooth
    12. Drizzle over the warm bars
    13. Cool completely on a wire rack
