Cheese Pastries with Jam
This is an old Canadian recipe from the Maritimes. Great with tea or coffee. Or you can fill them with a savory filling and serve as appetizers.. Yummy either way! Ingredients
- 2 cups unpacked grated strong cheddar cheese
- 1 1/8 cup sifted pastry flour
- 1/2 cup butter
- abit of milk if too dry
- Jam or Jelly or mashed fresh fruit
- Savory; mushrooms fried with onions
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 F.
- Mix the cheese & flour & cut in the butter til
- it forms a dough ( add abit of milk if needed )
- Roll out on a floured board til quite thin
- Cut 3" rounds with a cookie cutter
- Place on ungreased cookie pan
- Put a small spoon of jelly ( apple or ginger, etc.)
- in the middle.
- Moisten the edge, fold over gently as for
- turnovers & seal edge.
- Bake 12 to 14 min.
- Yield; 2 dozen pastries
