  • Cheese Pastries with Jam

    This is an old Canadian recipe from the Maritimes. Great with tea or coffee. Or you can fill them with a savory filling and serve as appetizers.. Yummy either way!

    Ingredients

    • 2 cups unpacked grated strong cheddar cheese
    • 1 1/8 cup sifted pastry flour
    • 1/2 cup butter
    • abit of milk if too dry
    • Jam or Jelly or mashed fresh fruit
    • Savory; mushrooms fried with onions

    Directions

    1. Preheat oven to 350 F.
    2. Mix the cheese & flour & cut in the butter til
    3. it forms a dough ( add abit of milk if needed )
    4. Roll out on a floured board til quite thin
    5. Cut 3" rounds with a cookie cutter
    6. Place on ungreased cookie pan
    7. Put a small spoon of jelly ( apple or ginger, etc.)
    8. in the middle.
    9. Moisten the edge, fold over gently as for
    10. turnovers & seal edge.
    11. Bake 12 to 14 min.
    12. Yield; 2 dozen pastries
