What do you get when you have a lot of apples and a can of biscuits in your fridge? The ingredients needed for a wonderful batch of apple dumplings of course! I love baking and making tasty sweet treats for my family to try and for the Sweet Taste of Saturday here at Carolina HeartStrings. This recipe was so easy to make and so delicious. Go root around in your fridge and see if you don’t have exactly what it takes to make this great treat. Your family will love you!

    Ingredients

    • 2 tablespoons butter
    • 4 cups of apples, peeled and chopped
    • 10 canned biscuits
    • 1/2 cup sugar
    • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
    • 1/2 cup Sprite
    • Sauce:
    • 1/2 cup sugar
    • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
    • 2 tablespoons butter

    Directions

    1. In a saucepan combine the apples, sugar, cinnamon and butter. Cook on low heat, stirring occasionally until the mixture is thickened up and the apples are just soft. Remove from heat and let cool slightly. Roll out each biscuit individually on a floured surface to approximately doubled in dimension. Spoon 1-2 tablespoons of the apple mixture into the center of each biscuit, fold over and pinch/roll the edges of the biscuit together. Place the biscuits in an 11×7 inch greased baking dish. Preheat over to 350 degrees.
    2. On the stovetop place the “sauce” ingredients into a saucepan (sugar, cinnamon, butter) . Cook over low heat until combined well. Pour over the biscuit/dumplings and spread it evenly. Pour the 1/2 cup Sprite over the entire pan. Place it in oven and bake 30-45 minutes until golden brown. Top with whipped cream, frozen yogurt of ice cream. Serves 10.
