Talk about delicious...you will not be disappointed in this apple dumpling recipe. I actually prefer to quarter cut the apples and wrap in small pieces of the pastry dough with small amounts of sugar mixture and place them in a 9 X 13 casserole. Continue with syrup directions and baking. It makes it easier to dip out for several people or dinners.

    Ingredients

    • Pillsbury Pastry for a two crust pie
    • 4 medium apples, peeled and cored
    • 1/3 cup sugar
    • 1 tsp. cinnamon
    • 4 tsp. butter
    • ***************************************
    • Syrup:
    • 2/3 cup brown sugar
    • 1 ½ cups water
    • 2 Tbsp. butter
    • ¼ tsp. cinnamon

    Directions

    1. Roll out pastry as for pie and cut in 7 inch squares (need 4 squares).
    2. Place an apple on each square of dough and fill cavity with sugar, cinnamon, and 1 tsp. butter.
    3. Bring opposite points of dough up to overlap apple. Moisten to seal. Place dumpling in baking dish.
    4. Heat syrup to boiling. Pour around dumplings.
    5. Bake at 400° for 40-45 minutes or until apples are done.
    6. Dip out & scoop vanilla ice cream on top while hot!
