SAVORY CHICKEN BIRYANI

It is an Indian popular spiced rice with meat. I made this recipe for those who like to enjoy Indian food with less spices. This recipe is simple but full of flavour. It's so yummy!!!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 c oil
  • 3 medium onions, sliced
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 star anise
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1/2 tbsp. garlic paste (3 cloves)
  • 1/2 tbsp. ginger paste (1 cm. ginger)
  • 2 medium tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 tbsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. MSG
  • 1 tsp. chili powder
  • 1/2 kg. chicken, cut up
  • 1 chicken cube
  • 1 tbsp. curry powder
  • 1 c water
  • 1/2 kg. Basmati rice (long-grained)

Directions

  1. Brown onions with cinnamon, star anise and bay leaf in hot oil.
  2. Add ginger and garlic. Saute for 1 minute.
  3. Stir in tomatoes until mushy.
  4. Season with salt, MSG and chili powder.
  5. Add chicken, chicken cube and curry powder. Stir fry for 5 minutes.
  6. Mix water and simmer until chicken is tender.
  7. Meanwhile, clean and rinse rice many times. Soak for 30 minutes.
  8. Boil enough water and add rice. Cook until rice is 75% done. Drain.
  9. In a large pan, mix rice, chicken and sauce. Steam for 20 minutes or until smokes come out from the pan.
