Fudge Frosting

Mom made this cake for dad's birthday every year. He just loved it.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 Tbsp. corn syrup
  • 2 Tbsp. shorting
  • 4 squared unsweetened chocolate
  • 1-1/2 tsp. vanilla extract

Directions

  1. Add all ingredients to a pot and blend. Then cover and bring to a boil. As soon as it boils cook uncovered, without stirring to the soft ball stage. Let cool add vanilla extract and beat until thick enough to hold shape.
  2. (Mom says: If too thick add cream; if too thin add 1/2 cup confectioners sugar) Cooking time will vary use your judgement.
