French Breakfast Muffins

French Breakfast Muffins is a delicious recipe that can be used for breakfast, brunch, a snack or even dessert. This was a very popular recipe from the 1970’s. Ingredients

  • Muffins:
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup melted butter
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1-2/3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1-1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • Topping:
  • 1/3 cup melted butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • Spread
  • Butter

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375° F.
  2. Grease a 12 cup muffin pan; set aside.
  3. Combine milk, 1/3 cup melted butter and egg in a bowl. Set aside.
  4. In another bowl, combine flour, 3/4 cup sugar, baking powder, salt and nutmeg. Add in the egg mixture; stir just until combined.
  5. Spoon batter into prepared pan. Bake 15-20 minutes or until toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  6. Place the 1/3 cup melted butter in a bowl. Combine 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon in another bowl. Remove muffins from pan; let stand 2 minutes to 5 minutes on cooling rack.
  7. Serve warm with butter.
