Thaen Mittai is a traditional South Indian sweet, especially popular in Tamil Nadu. This sweet is a quick-to-make treat. Here’s a simple recipe you can try at home

    Ingredients

    • • Rice flour – ½ cup
    • • Urad dal flour – ¼ cup
    • • Honey – 1 cup
    • • Baking soda – a pinch
    • • Food color (optional)
    • • Oil

    Directions

    1.  Mix rice flour, urad dal flour mixture, and a pinch of baking soda in a bowl.
    2.  Add a few drops of food color (orange or red). Add water gradually to achieve vadai batter consistency.
    3.  Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Take small portions of the batter and gently shape them into small balls.
    4.  Drop the balls into the hot oil and fry them on medium heat until golden and crispy.
    5.  Drain excess oil by placing the fried balls on a paper towel.
    6.  Warm the honey slightly (do not boil).
    7.  soak the fried balls in honey and let them cool.
