My parents and aunt and uncle used to drink this every Christmas. My mother even had “special” mugs to serve it in. The was the only use of those particular mugs. Tom and Jerry mugs she called them. Lucky me, I just happened to have the recipe for this delicious drink in my recipe box and I decided it was high time to pull it out and whip up a batch. The Husband and I loved it. Whip up a batch for yourself and enjoy the lights on your tree!

    Ingredients

    • 6 large eggs
    • 2 2/3 cups powdered sugar
    • 1 1/3 cup brown sugar
    • 1/8 teaspoon salt
    • 1/8 teaspoon cream of tartar
    • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla

    Directions

    1. Separate egg whites and yolks. Save the yolks. Place the egg whites in a small mixing bowl. Beat until stiff (very stiff). Place the yolks in a large mixing bowl. Mix until creamy. Add small amount of powered sugar and brown sugar at a time, beat smooth. Add egg whites to the mixture gradually. Add vanilla, salt and cream of tartar last. Beat until batter is creamy smooth. This makes 5 cups of batter.
    2. These are the portions for each cup or serving per person:
    3. 3/4 shot of brandy or bourbon (this is 1 jigger)
    4. 1/4 to 1/2 shot rum
    5. 2 tablespoons batter
    6. Boiling water (1 cup)
    7. Nutmeg
    8. Put bourbon, rum and batter in a mug. Add boiling water to fill up cup. Sprinkle with nutmeg. ENJOY! Refrigerate the remaining batter for a week or two.
