Sweet and Sour Pork is a dish made of pork cut into serving pieces, marinated, and coated in flour and/or cornstarch, and then deep-fried. The sweet and sour sauce which consists of brown sugar, vinegar, and ketchup brings tastiness to this dish, and there are also vegetables which adds flavor. You can also use the sweet and sour ready-to-mix sauce/mixture that can be bought at grocery stores.

    Ingredients

    • 400 grams of pork
    • 1 egg
    • 1/4 cup of flour
    • 1 small red and 1 small green bell peppers cut into cubes (1 inch)
    • 1 medium-sized can of pineapple chunks (preferrably del monte; drain syrup and set aside)
    • 1 medium sized red onion, chopped (like the size of the bell peppers)
    • 1 small carrot, cubed or sliced (I prefer cubes)
    • sauce:
    • 1/4 cup of ketchup
    • 2 tbsps of cane vinegar
    • 5 tbsps of sugar
    • 1/4 tsp of iodized salt
    • 2 tbsps of cornstarch dissolved in 1 cup of water
    • pineapple syrup

    Directions

    1. Boil pork in 1 cup of water until tender. Cut into cubes and set aside.
    2. Beat egg, add flour and salt, and then mix until smooth.
    3. Dip pork in batter mixture, and then deep-fry until golden brown, and then set aside.
    4. Combine sauce ingredients, then let it simmer until thick.
    5. Add bell peppers, carrots, and onions and the pineapple chunks.
    6. Simmer for another 3-5 minutes, and then add the fried pork.
