Ingredients

  • 2/3 c. Half & half
  • 1 pkt (6 ounce) semi-sweet chocolate morsels
  • 3 x Large eggs, separated
  • 1 x 9 inch baked pie shell
  • 2 pt Fresh strawberries
  • 2 tsp Lemon juice
  • 1 pkt Unflavored gelatin
  • 1/4 c. Cool water
  • 1/4 c. Sugar

Directions

  1. Heat half and half in saucepan over medium heat. Stir in chocolate morsels; beat smooth with wire whisk. Remove from heat; whisk in egg yolks one at a time, mixing till well blended. Return to heat.
  2. Cook, stirring, 1 to 2 min longer. Cold; pour into pie shell.
  3. Refrigeratetill set, 2 to 3 hrs. Puree 1 pint of the berries with lemon juice (there should be about 1 2/3 c. puree). Soften gelatin in water; hot over low heat to dissolve, then stir into berry puree.
  4. Refrigeratetill mix begins to set. Meanwhile, beat egg whites, gradually adding sugar till soft peaks form. Mix in thickened berry mix. Pour over chocolate layer, shill till set. To serve, slice remaining pint berries; sweeten if you like. Spoon over wedges of pie.
