    Ingredients

    • 1/2 cup Mayonnaise
    • 1/4 cup Ketchup
    • 1 tablespoon Horseradish Sauce
    • 1/2 tsp. Mustard Powder ( I used Coleman Hot Mustard)
    • 1 teaspoon pickle juice

    Directions

    I had to do it.

    I did.

    Really, I did.

I used to live in Utah and when you went to Arctic Circle Drive Inn for a burger and fries you were always asked this question, "you want Fry Sauce with that?" And the answer was always "Yes please. "

I think it was a law, you could ask for ketchup for the fries, but few people did. One of Arctic Circle's claims to fame was that they were the originator of Fry Sauce.

A mixture of ketchup, mayonnaise and some other secret ingredients.

They were also well known for their Lime Rickey drink in the summer, Brown Topper Cones, as well as a few other local faves.

We moved away and I found out that Fry Sauce was nowhere to be had, in fact most restaurants had never even heard of it.

If I wanted to dip a fry in Fry Sauce, I had to make up my own. So I'd ask for extra mayo, add some ketchup and dip my fries.

However, when I'm home and on those rare occasions when I make my own fries, I also whip up some Fry Sauce, and make it to my taste. The pictured fries are oven fries made in my toaster oven.

It also tastes great on a burger, or on some onion rings or some deep fried Zucchini or ...

No point in wasting that awesome loveliness.

    And...

This month's Improv Cooking Challenge was to use Ketchup and Mustard in a recipe and blog about it. This event is hosted by Nichole Little of Cookaholic Wife.

This month the challenge was to use using Ketchup and Mustard in a recipe.

It only took me about 5 minutes to figure out what I was making...

Here's my take on Fry Sauce. I know it seems super simple, but trust me on this. Once you've tasted Fry Sauce on a French Fry, you may never go back to just Ketchup again.

BTW, you're not limited to using ketchup, even if it is authentic. I've mixed in a little Sambal Oelek from time to time and also used BBQ sauce.

This is not only perfect for dipping french fries in, but also makes a great sauce for a hamburger or even dolloped on top of a baked potato.

Note: As always, adjust the seasonings to your taste, although the ratio of mayonnaise to ketchup should be roughly 2:1.
