Sloppy Joe on a Bun
Ingredients
- 2 qts onions, finely chopped
- 2 qts celery, finely chopped
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- 21# ground beef
- 2 1/2 gal tomato sauce
- 4 cups catsup
- 2 Tbsp salt
- 2 tsp pepper
- 1 tsp thyme, ground
- 2 Tbsp basil
- 100 each hamburger buns
Directions
- Fry onions and celery in oil in stock pot until onions are golden.
- Add ground beef to vegetables; cook and stir over moderate heat until meat is broken up and well browned.
- Drain meat and vegetables well in a colander. Discard fat. Return meat and vegetables to stock pot.
- Add tomato sauce, catsup, salt, pepper, thyme, and basil to the meat. Simmer, uncovered, stirring frequently, for 20-25 minutes.
- Portion 1/2 cup sloppy joe on each bun.
