Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp almond extract
  • 1 3/4 cups flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup sliced almonds
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • Almond Icing:
  • 1 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 1/4 tsp almond extract
  • 1/4 cup milk

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 325 F
  2. In a medium bowl, cream the butter and the sugar
  3. Add the egg and the almond extract
  4. Mix until fluffy
  5. Stir in the flour, baking powder, and the salt.
  6. Mix well.
  7. Divide the dough into four pieces
  8. Roll each piece into a log about 12 inches long.
  9. Place 2 logs per cookie sheet 4 to 5 minches apart.
  10. Flatten each roll by hand until it is about 3 inches wide
  11. Brush the flattened roll with milk
  12. Sprinkle with the sliced almonds
  13. Bake in a preheated oven for 12 to 15 minutes or until the edges are slightly browned
  14. While the cookies are still warm, cut them crosswise at a diagonal, into slices about 1 inch wide
  15. When cool, drizzle with almond icing
  16. Almond Icing: In a small bowl, stir together the powdered sugar, almond extract, and the milk until smooth.
  17. Drizzle over the cookies
