  • Red Velvet Cake

    Ingredients

    • 2 ounce red food coloring
    • 3 teaspoon Nestles chocolate Quik
    • 2 1/4 c. flour
    • 1/2 c. shortening, Crisco
    • 1 1/2 c. sugar
    • 6 large eggs
    • 1 c. buttermilk
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla
    • 1 T vinegar
    • 1 teaspoon soda
    • ICING RED VELVET CAKE
    • 1/2 c. Crisco
    • 1 c. granulated sugar
    • 2/3 c. lowfat milk
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla

    Directions

    1. Mix and set aside:
    2. Cream shortening and sugar. Add in large eggs, color paste. Beat 10 min. Add in buttermilk and slowly add in flour, then salt and vanilla. Remove from mixer, add in slowly by hand mixing vinegar and soda. Bake at 350 degree oven for 30 to 35 min.
    3. Cream well 1/4 lb butter (8 tbsp).
    4. Add in 3 tbsp flour (level full) one at a time. Add in:
    5. Beat 12 min with electric mixer.
