Always a family favorite. As soon as it started getting cooler in the fall I would make popcorn balls for my family. A wonderful after school treat. Make sure to remove your rings before making these!

    Ingredients

    • 6 quarts Popped Corn
    • 2 cups Sugar
    • 1 1/2 cups Water
    • 1/2 tsp Salt
    • 1/2 cup Light Corn Syrup
    • 1 tsp Vinegar
    • 1 tsp Vanilla

    Directions

    1. Keep popcorn hot in warm oven (325 degrees)
    2. In a heavy pan such as a Dutch oven combine remaining ingredients except vanilla and cook to hardball stage (250 degrees – when a small amount is dropped from a spoon into a bowl of really cold water you should be able to push it together to form a small ball, when lifted out of the water it will bend).
    3. Remove from heat and add vanilla.
    4. Carefully pour over popcorn and stir with large spoon until popcorn is coated.
    5. Using Crisco on hands (lots of it so the popcorn doesn’t stick to your hands and burn you!) shape into balls and place on waxed paper. Work quickly as the cooled syrup is hard to work with.
    6. Store in plastic bags and enjoy.
