Oatmeal Raisin Chocolate Chip Cookies

I know, I know oatmeal, raisins AND chocolate chips. Trust me. It is a great combination. This is a delicious oatmeal cookie recipe. The Husband said they reminded him of his favorite spice cake his mom baked when he was a kid. Don’t you love a cookie that brings back memories?

Ingredients

  • 1 cup shortening
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • 1 1/2 cups brown sugar
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 1/2 cups oatmeal (quick oats are fine)
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk

Directions

  1. Combine shortening, salt, cloves and cinnamon. Add brown sugar and eggs and cream together until mixed well. Stir in the oatmeal and raisins. Sift together the flour and baking soda. Mix the dry ingredients alternatively with the buttermilk. Drop by teaspoonfuls (or a cookie scoop) onto a cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 9-10 minutes. Makes approximately 5 dozen cookies.
