Never Fail Chocolate Pie

from Rick's "Poor White Trash Cookbook" - this is GOOOOOD! Gooey, brownie textured pie!

Ingredients

  • 4 eggs - separated
  • 1 C whole milk
  • 6 level T good cocoa
  • 1 T vanilla
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1 1/2 C sugar
  • 3 T flour
  • hot water - just a bit
  • salt - pinch
  • unbaked 9" pie shell
  • 1/2 C finely chopped English walnuts

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees
  2. Beat egg yolks with half of sugar
  3. Add melted and cooled butter
  4. Mix other half of sugar with cocoa and flour
  5. Add a little hot water - only enough to dissolve
  6. Put the two mixtures together and mix thoroughly
  7. Add milk and vanilla (mixture will appear thin - that's cool!)
  8. Pour into unbaked pie shell
  9. Top with finely chopped English walnuts
  10. Bake until firm - about 30 minutes
  11. Serve with whipped cream or ice cream
