This recipe ran in the Palo Alto Weekly over 25 years ago. It's for the much loved Hobee's coffe cake for you Palo Altans.

    Ingredients

    • 1 1/2 cup flour
    • 1 cup sugar
    • 2 teaspoons baking powder
    • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt
    • 2 eggs
    • 1 cup sour cream
    • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla (I like to use 1 teaspoon)
    • 1/4 - 1/2 fresh blueberries
    • Topping: (I double this since I love crumble topping)
    • 5 tablespoons sugar
    • 2 tablespoons butter
    • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

    Directions

    1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
    2. Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt with a whisk to remove any lumps and blend.
    3. In a separate bowl, beat egg, vanilla and sour cream - add to flour mixture and beat until smooth. Spread in a 9x9 oiled baking pan. Sprinkle blueberries on top. Mix topping and sprinkle over batter and blueberries.
    4. Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes.
    5. Can be served at room temperature or warm.

If you follow the recipe as written (above) the topping will fall into the batter. It tastes great but doesn't look so hot. So, if you want a crumble topping I'd suggest adding more flour to the recipe or if you have a crumble topping you like, use that one. Like I said, as is it tastes great just doesn't look like Hobee's.
