Smoked pork and potatoes cooked any way always taste great served together and in this dish is a classic example of combining French-style baked potatoes with German smoked pork chops.

    Ingredients

    • 4 Kassler chops
    • 4 potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
    • 3 cloves of garlic, peeled and finely chopped
    • 180g strong cheese such as matured cheddar
    • 250ml fresh cream
    • 1 tablespoon butter
    • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
    • 2 teaspoons mustard of your choice (Dijon,Hot English,Wholegrain)

    Directions

    1. For the potato bake, sprinkle an oven dish with half the chopped garlic and spoon in half the butter
    2. Place a layer of potato, sprinkle with the rest of the garlic, salt, pepper, the mustard and half the cheese.
    3. Repeat with another layer of potatoes and cheese.
    4. Pour over the cream, and then top with the rest of the cheese and butter.
    5. Place the dish in an oven pre-heated to 180 degrees Celsius and bake for about 45 minutes or until lightly browned and cooked through.
    6. Now for the chops. In a lightly oiled or buttered frying pan fry the chops over medium heat for about two minutes, turn and repeat then remove from heat and cover.
