    Ingredients

    • Hot Cross Buns
    • Bun Ingredients
    • 1/2c whole wheat flour
    • 1/2 cup all purpose flour
    • 2 tsp. baking powder
    • 1/2 tsp. salt
    • 2 tbsp. shortening or butter
    • 1 tbsp. honey
    • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
    • 1/4 c. raisins ( optional)
    • 1/3 c. milk
    • Icing Ingredients
    • 1/2 c. powdered sugar
    • 2 tsp. milk
    • 1/4 tsp. vanilla
    • Small amount of Pink or lavender food dye

    Directions

    1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Line a sheet pan with foil and spray with cooking spray.
    2. 1. Mix the flour, baking powder and salt together in a bowl. Cut in the shortening or butter with a fork until it looks like coarse crumbs. Add the honey, cinnamon and raisins and toss lightly. Make a well in the middle and pour in the milk all at once. Stir it around quickly with a fork and form a ball.
    3. 2. Dust your hands with a little extra flour and divide the ball into 6 small ones. Place the 6 balls on sheet pan about 2 inches apart. With a knife cut a deep cross through the top of each ball. Bake for 15-20 minutes.
    4. 3. Cool rolls for 10 minutes.
    5. 4. Mix all icing ingredients together then fill a small zip lock bag with icing. Make sure the top of the plastic bag is sealed then snip a tiny hole in the bottom corner.
    6. 5. Squeeze the icing through the opening and fill-in the cut cross shape on each bun to form the cross.
