Holiday Peanut Butter and Chocolate Rice Krispies Treats
Servings: 18by laphemmephoodie2 recipes>I love peanut butter. I love to eat it in sandwiches and on apples but I’m usually not a big fan of peanut butter in desserts. I wanted to make a holiday treat that would be fun, tasty and not that tempting. Almost everyone else I know loves peanut butter in just about everything. I planned on passing these off to family and friends but then I took a bite…and another bite…and another bite…you get the picture. At first I planned on using the standard recipe that calls for marshmallow. I was going to add some red and green food coloring to the mix and then use cookie cutters to create cute holiday shapes. I changed my mind once I stumbled across my supply of red and green chocolate candy. Of course, in order to get the candy to stick I would have to glaze the treats in chocolate. You see where I’m headed here. I’m always looking for a way to incorporate chocolate into a recipe. Ingredients
- 3/4 cup white sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- 3 tablespoons butter, cubed
- 1 cup corn syrup (can use light or dark)
- 1 cup smooth peanut butter
- 6 cups Kelloggs Rice Krispies cereal
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- Nestle Red & Green Mixed Mini Morsels Toppers
Directions
- Lightly grease an 11 x 9-inch pan (can use a 13 x 9-inch pan).
- In a large microwave-safe bowl combine the first 6 ingredients; microwave on high until melted and smooth, removing 2-3 times to stir.
- Immediately add in cereal and mix with a wooden spoon until combined.
- Transfer/spread into prepared pan then using lightly oiled finger press down into the pan.
- Cool for an hour or so until the mixture has set.
- Use your favorite cookie cutters to shape the treats.
- Melt approximately 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips. Dip the treats in the chocolate and then dip the chocolate covered treats in the morsels.
