  • Hamburger, Potato, And Bean Casserole

    Ingredients

    • 1 lb lean grnd beef
    • 2 x 8-oz cans tomato sauce
    • 3 med potatoes peeled (if you like), halved lengthwise, and sliced 1/4-inch thick
    • 1 med onion sliced
    • 2 x 15 1/2-oz cans dark red kidney beans
    • 1 x 4 1/2-oz can sliced mushrooms liquid removed
    • 1 tsp garlic pwdr
    • 1/2 tsp pepper

    Directions

    1. In a large skillet, cook grnd beef till no longer pink. Drain well.
    2. In a 3 1/2- or possibly 4-qt crockery cooker, spoon 1/3 c. tomato sauce into bottom of the cooker. Layer half of the potatoes, onion, undrained beans, beef, mushrooms, garlic pwdr, and pepper. Repeat layers; pour remaining tomato sauce over.
    3. Cover and cook on high heat setting 3 to 3 1/2 hrs or possibly till the potatoes are tender. Stir mix just before serving.
    4. Makes 6 servings.
    5. NOTES : This is one dish Bill can walk away from when duty calls. When the alarm sounds, it's not unusual for the captain to leave food half prepared or possibly for the firefighters to dash away from unfinished meals.
