Here's a tasty, tender and satisfying burger using the economical, tenderized round steak. I made this up one afternoon to feed the cement masons & finishers, who came to lay out my new driveway and patio. These burgers were wolfed down in no time, some asked for the recipe.

    • 1 1/2 - 2 Lbs. Cubed Beef Steak (6 Each)
    • 2 Tsp. Montreal Steak Seasoning
    • 3 Tsp. Worcestershire Sauce
    • 1 Medium Sweet Onion, Sliced Into Thin Wedges
    • 1 Medium Red Bell Pepper, Cut Into 1/2 Inch Strips
    • 4 Oz. Fresh Mushrooms, Sliced
    • 2 Tbsp. Butter (No Substitutes)
    • Serve With:
    • 6 Onion, Plain/Wheat Burger or Italian Buns; Split and Toasted
    • 6 Thin Slices Pepper Jack, Provolone Or Muenster Cheese
    • 1 Large Tomato, Sliced
    • 1/4 Cup Pepperoncini, Sliced
    • 6 Tbsp. Mayonnaise
    • 6 Tbsp. Steak Sauce

    Prepare Burgers:
Add enough coals to a grill for medium-high heat. Season both sides of the cubed steak with Montreal steak seasoning and Worcestershire sauce. Set aside until grill is hot.
Place sliced onion, bell pepper and mushrooms into a 8 x 8-Inch aluminum pan; add butter. Cover with a piece of aluminum foil, leaving 1-Inch open space at corners to vent steam.
Once grill is ready, add pan with pepper mixture. Grill for 15 - 18 minutes or until crisp-tender.
Add seasoned cube steak, cook for 5 - 6 minutes, flipping half way threw. You're looking to sear both sides only (medium). If you overcook they will shrink and become chewy. If this happens, I suggest using another aluminum pan, add about 2 1/2 cups heated beef broth and steaks. Cover and simmer for 1 hour over medium-low coals (covering grill). Removing pepper mixture and set aside, adding to grill to reheat for 5 minutes.
    To Serve:
Toast burger buns of choice over hot grill. Set out with burgers, pepper mixture and cheese. Serve with various condiments listed.
    Cook's Tip:
Try replacing the red bell pepper with Hungarian hot banana peppers for a kick, or mix and match with any pepper variety.
