Grilled Asparagus Recipe

Grilled Asparagus

This is a very simple recipe for grilled asparagus. Asparagus is probably my favorite vegetable to grill. It does not get dried out, it absorbs the grilled flavor wonderfully, and it is easy to do. Just make sure that you grill it against the grain of the grill or it will get stuck between the grates!

Wine and Drink Pairings: Edna Valley Chardonnay

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs asparagus
  • Garlic salt
  • Olive oil spray

Directions

  1. Preheat grill to Medium High.
  2. Wash and break off ends of asparagus. A great tip for cooking only the tender part of the asparagus is to break off the end by hand. If you break it wherever it is soft enough for you to break it gently with our fingers, the part remaining is perfect. If, instead, you cut it, you many end up with some pieces with a hard to chew end.
  3. Place asparagus on a plate or in a casserole dish.
  4. Spray asparagus with a thin layer of olive oil, turning to coat all sides.
  5. Sprinkle asparagus with Garlic salt, turning to cover all sides.
  6. Place on grill with the thickest part of the asparagus (not the tip) over the hottest part of the grill if possible. Grill for approximately 12-15 minutes, turning at least once, and ideally 3-4 times.
  7. Remove and let sit for 3-5 minutes before serving.
