Grandma's Stuffed Green Peppers

Ingredients

  • 4 lg. green peppers
  • 1 sm. onion
  • 1 tbsp. shortening
  • 1 pound hamburger
  • 1/2 c. uncooked rice
  • 1 (46 ounce.) can tomato juice
  • 1 cube vegetable bouillon
  • Garlic salt
  • Celery salt
  • Salt and pepper

Directions

  1. Cut off tops of 4 green peppers. Pour boiling water over peppers. Let stand 30 min. Drain. Chop one small onion and the tops of the peppers. Put in pan with one Tbsp. shortening. Let simmer for 10 min.
  2. Add in one lb. hamburger. Let cook 10 more min. Add in 1/2 c. uncooked rice. Mix well. Put in a casserole dish. Put garlic salt, celery salt, salt and pepper in tomato juice, then pour over peppers. Put in slow oven for 2 hrs.
