  • Gammon Steaks With Caramelized Onion And Apple

    Ingredients

    • 1 Tbsp. Vegetable oil
    • 25 gm Butter, (1oz)
    • 2 x Red onions, finely sliced lengthways
    • 1 x Red skinned apple, cored, quartered and cut into slices
    • 2 x Cm, (1 inch) piece fresh root ginger, peeled and finely grated
    • 1 Tbsp. Soft light brown sugar
    • 1 Tbsp. Red wine vinegar
    • 2 Tbsp. Water, (2 to 3) Salt and freshly grnd black pepper
    • 1 x 225 gram pac tendersweet lightly smoked gammon steaks

    Directions

    1. Heat the oil and butter in a frying pan, add in the onions and apple slices and gently fry till they become golden and caramelized. Stir occasionally, takes approximately 10-15 min.
    2. Squeeze the grated root ginger over the onions and apples extracting all the juice, and stir in.
    3. Add in the sugar, vinegar and water with seasoning to taste and allow to simmer for 1-2 min. Reduce the heat to low and keep hot, stirring occasionally.
    4. Cook the gammon steaks following instructions on the pack and serve with the sauce.
    5. Notes Accompany with creamed mashed potato and a green vegetable.
    6. NOTES : Smoked gammon steaks served with a rich caramelized onion and apple sauce for a quick and delicious mid-week meal.
