Gammon Steaks With Caramelized Onion And Apple
Ingredients
- 1 Tbsp. Vegetable oil
- 25 gm Butter, (1oz)
- 2 x Red onions, finely sliced lengthways
- 1 x Red skinned apple, cored, quartered and cut into slices
- 2 x Cm, (1 inch) piece fresh root ginger, peeled and finely grated
- 1 Tbsp. Soft light brown sugar
- 1 Tbsp. Red wine vinegar
- 2 Tbsp. Water, (2 to 3) Salt and freshly grnd black pepper
- 1 x 225 gram pac tendersweet lightly smoked gammon steaks
Directions
- Heat the oil and butter in a frying pan, add in the onions and apple slices and gently fry till they become golden and caramelized. Stir occasionally, takes approximately 10-15 min.
- Squeeze the grated root ginger over the onions and apples extracting all the juice, and stir in.
- Add in the sugar, vinegar and water with seasoning to taste and allow to simmer for 1-2 min. Reduce the heat to low and keep hot, stirring occasionally.
- Cook the gammon steaks following instructions on the pack and serve with the sauce.
- Notes Accompany with creamed mashed potato and a green vegetable.
