Directions
February 2021 started off like any other February. It is financial year end for many companies and so they like to keep stock levels low. I did not have any great expectations for the month, and was really surprised when we exceeded our targets. It is also meant to be heat wave month where I live and surprisingly, we had very few hot days. The month was bracketed by excessive temperatures, and our swimming pool earned its keep.
To keep us cool and summer treats
I whipped up a batch of butterscotch soft serve. This no churn ice cream is super easy to make if you use store bought ingredients. I baked up a storm, using my sourdough discard. There were granola cookies, halva cookies and apricot cookies. And lastly I made a chocolate stout pudding to celebrate the opening of alcohol sales.
On the savoury side
I made queso blanco using UHT milk as an experiment which turned out extremely well. My sourdough wholemeal bread was this month’s bread bake and I whipped up a batch of oven baked fritters. The recipe I tested from Meze and have showcased in February 2021 was for chicken livers cooked with pomegranate molasses.
One new thing in my kitchen in February 2021
I am forever collecting recipes to test and they were collecting in a box which I am not using for Hannah’s pencils. I decided to buy a new recipe note book and have stuck all the recipes into the book. The great thing about this particular book is that the pages are lined. I cannot write straight so this is a great help for note making. And the pages are perforated and tear out nicely. Now to get the recipes tested!
