  • Easter Papoose Bread

    Ingredients

    • 1/4 c. lukewarm water
    • 1 teaspoon plus 1/2 c. sugar
    • 1 pkg. active dry yeast
    • 1 c. scalded lowfat milk
    • Healthy pinch of salt
    • 1/3 c. butter
    • 2 Large eggs, beaten
    • 3 1/2 c. unsifted flour
    • 1 egg, beaten well with
    • 1 teaspoon water
    • 6 Large eggs in their shells
    • Confetti sprinkles

    Directions

    1. Combine water, 1 tsp. sugar, and yeast in a small bowl and let stand 5 min. In a large bowl, combine lowfat milk, salt, butter, Large eggs, and remaining 1/2 c. sugar. Add in about half the flour and beat till smooth. Stir in yeast mix.
    2. Slowly add in the remaining flour to create a stiff dough (add in more flour if needed), turn out on a floured board and knead till smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover and let rise in a hot place till doubled.
