Dutch apple tart

Ingredients

  • The tart:
  • 60 ml butter, softened
  • 250 ml sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 250 ml cake flour
  • 5 ml baking powder
  • 1 ml salt
  • 2 ml cinamon
  • 65 ml milk
  • 5 ml vanilla essence
  • 2 apples
  • For the syrup:
  • 180 ml sugar
  • 65 ml butter
  • 125 ml milk or cream
  • Topping
  • Flaked almonds

Directions

  1. Preheat oven 375*F/180*C
  2. Prepare a deep pan of about 23 cm by spraying oil and powdering it with cake flour.
  3. Cream butter & sugar intil fluffy
  4. Add one egg at a time, whisking well
  5. Add milk and essence, mix lightly
  6. In a large bowl, sift dry ingredients
  7. Add the wet to the dry, stir lightly, don't overmix
  8. Pour into pan and level the surface with your spatula
  9. Peel, core and tinly slice the apples
  10. Arrange overlapping slices on the
  11. Bake 30 minutes
  12. Meanwhile, micowave the ingredients for the syrup, use a DEEP bowl to prevent overflowing
  13. Stir every minute for 5-6 minutes until the syrup has a thick consistency and slightly discoulered.
  14. Ater 30 minutes, the tart should be cooked and the apples a golden colour.
  15. Remove from oven and pour the warm syrup over the apples, be careful, it is a slow job! Use all the syrup
  16. Sprinkle the slivered almonds over the apples, return to the oven for a few minutes to allow them to brown slightly before finally removing the tart from the oven
  17. Allow to cool on a cooling rack, refridgerate .
  18. Serve with cream that has been whisked and sweetened if prefered.
