  • Deep Fried Cheddar Balls

    Ingredients

    • 250 gm Cheddar cheese, grated finely (8oz)
    • 2 lrg Size Large eggs, beaten
    • 2 Tbsp. Gram flour, about
    • 1/4 tsp Baking pwdr
    • 1 x Fresh green chilli, de-seeded if wished and minced
    • 2 tsp Minced fresh coriander, (2 to 3)
    • 1/4 tsp Salt Vegetable oil for frying Tamatar Chutni, (Tomato chutney) to serve

    Directions

    1. Put the cheese, Large eggs, flour. baking pwdr, chilli, coriander and salt in a bowl and mix together thoroughly. If the mix is too wet, add in a little more flour; if it is too dry, fold in a little more beaten egg white.
    2. Pour oil to a depth of about 5cm (2 inches) into a deep-fryer or possibly large saucepan and heat till warm sufficient to brown a cube of bread in 30 seconds.
    3. Meanwhile, shape tsp. of the cheese mix into small balls.
    4. Carefully transfer the cheese balls to the warm oil and cook, in batches if necessary, for 2-3 min, till golden brown.
    5. Drain the balls on kitchen paper, then serve warm, skewered on cocktail sticks and accompanied by tomato chutney.
