Crockpot Savory Swiss Steak

Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb round steak
  • 1/4 cup white flour
  • 2 tsp dry mustard
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 2 tbsps each of butter and oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 carrots, peeled and grated
  • 2 celery stalks, finely chopped
  • 1 can diced tomatoes (16 oz)
  • 2 tbsps worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar

Directions

  1. Cut steak into bit size pieces. Coat the meat with a mixture of flour, mustard, salt and pepper. In a large frying pan, brown meat in half the butter and oil. Transfer to a crockpot. Heat the remaining butter and oil in the frying pan. Sauté the onion, carrots and celery until glazed. Add tomatoes, worcestershire sauce and brown sugar. Keep the drippings from the frying pan and pour in the crockpot. Cook on low for 6 to 8 hours or until tender. Serve with mashed potatoes.
