Make these in the slow cooker, or stovetop, and bake some cornbread. Yum! Usually, I make pintos with tomato sauce, but chile sauce adds a nice zip.

    Ingredients

    • 1 lb. dry pintos, soaked overnight in water.
    • 1 1/2 qts. chicken broth (I use Orrington Farms Chicken Base Broth added to water, which is cheap.)
    • 3 slices meaty bacon, cooked, chopped
    • 1 small onion sautéed in bacon grease
    • 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
    • 1/4 cup Heinz Chili Sauce or homemade
    • 1 tsp. chile powder
    • 1 tsp. pepper
    • 1 tsp. salt
    • 1 tsp. cumin
    • Tabasco to taste

    Directions

    1. Place pre-soaked beans in a crockpot with the other ingredients. Cook on high for 1 hour, turn to low and cook another 6-8 hours.
    2. Pre-soaked beans cook in about an hour on the stove-top.
