  • Creme Caramel French Toast

    Ingredients

    • 2 Tbsp. light corn syrup
    • 1 c. brown sugar
    • 1/4 c. butter
    • 1 1/2 lb loaf of sliced cinnamon raisin bread
    • 6 lrg Large eggs
    • 2 c. lowfat milk
    • 2 c. half-and-half
    • 1/3 c. sugar
    • 2 tsp vanilla extract
    • 1/2 tsp salt Lowfat sour cream for accompaniment

    Directions

    1. In a saucepan combine the corn syrup, brown sugar, and butter. Cook till smooth and bubbly. Spread in the bottom of an 17- by 11-inch baking pan.
    2. Overlap bread slices in pan over syrup.
    3. In a bowl mix Large eggs, lowfat milk, half-and-half, sugar, vanilla, and salt. Pour over bread slices. Allow to set for 15 to 20 min.
    4. Bake, covered, at 350 degrees for 45 min, then remove cover. Bake for additional 10 to 15 min or possibly till puffed and golden. Slice and invert pcs to serve. Garnish with dollops of lowfat sour cream.
    5. This recipe yields 6 to 8 servings.
