Whether you’re alone for the holidays and missing that home cooked meal or looking for a new stand out dish to bring this is the perfect recipe. The flavors of fall mixed in with the sweetness of the pumpkin pie mix equal a new twist on ordinary pasta. Hope you enjoy it as much as my family does!

    Ingredients

    • 1 can (15 ounces) pumpkin pie mix
    • 2 cups whipping cream
    • 3/4 cups sugar
    • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
    • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
    • 1 tablespoon red pepper flakes
    • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
    • couple of sage leafs (depending on how much you like sage)
    • 1 package large pasta shells

    Directions

    1. Prepare pasta according to directions on package. Meanwhile, combine all ingredients in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Simmer the mixture until slightly thickened, 10-12 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in pasta serving immediately.

I tried to vote again, but lost my comment. I made this and it was amazing. I adjusted the seasoning because my boyfriend doesn't like spicy food and it was very yummy. I cooked the leftover sauce down a little more and turned it into a dip. I love recipes that have many uses.

Great blend of sweet-spice! I tried this last night. I added small pieces of chicken breast (seasoned with the pepper flakes and cayenne), and served it as a main dish. The sweet-hot combo was yummy. I can't wait to eat the leftovers tonight. I'm going to pair it with a Gewurztraminer. I definately will cook this again. Thanks for the creation.

This recipe was a finalist in the Thanksgiving KitchenAid Recipe Contest due to the overwhelming number of responses.
It's a creative way to use the season's spices, and provides a sneak preview of dessert for those who can't wait.
Couple of adjustments: Add salt to balance the sweetness. Infuse spices in cream, bring to simmer till it thickens, before whisking in the pumpkin mix to avoid creating a gooey sauce. Lastly, consider using half measure of creme fraiche instead of cream to add a tang and complexity to the flavor.

I found this recipe too sweet for my taste and would significantly reduce the sugar. Otherwise it was good.
