  • Classic Cream Scones

    Ingredients

    • 2 c. all-purpose flour
    • 2 tsp baking pwdr
    • 1/8 tsp salt
    • 1/4 c. sugar
    • 1/3 c. butter or possibly margarine cubed
    • 1/2 c. whipping cream
    • 1 lrg egg
    • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
    • 1 x egg white
    • 1 tsp water Sugar for sprinkling

    Directions

    1. Combine first 4 ingredients. Cut in butter with a pastry blender till mix is crumbly.
    2. Whisk together cream, egg, and vanilla; add in to flour mix, stirring just till dry ingredients are moistened.
    3. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Pat dough to 1/2-inch thickness; cut with a 2 1/2-inch round cutter, and place on baking sheets.
    4. Whisk together egg white and 1 tsp. water; brush mix over tops of scones. Sprinkle scones with additional sugar.
    5. Bake at 425 degrees for 13 to 15 min or possibly till lightly browned.
    6. This recipe yields 1 dozen.
