Cheese And Herb Flat Bread
Ingredients
- 1 pkt yeast
- 1/4 c. hot water
- 2 Tbsp. margarine
- 1 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp salt
- 3/4 c. lowfat milk scalded
- 3 c. all-purpose flour
- 2 Tbsp. onions minced
- 1/4 c. margarine melted
- 1/2 tsp oregano
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1/4 tsp celery seed
- 1/4 tsp garlic salt
- 1/2 tsp basil
- 1 c. cheddar cheese shredded
Directions
- 1. Soften yeast in 1/4 c. hot water.
- 2. In mixing bowl, combine 2 Tbsp. margarine, sugar, salt and scalded lowfat milk. Cold to lukewarm.
- 3. Stir the yeast into lowfat milk mix. Gradually add in flour to create a stiff dough. You may not need all of the flour. Knead on floured surface till smooth and satiny; 4 to 5 min. Place in greased bowl and turn to coat top. Cover and let rise till light; about 45 min.
- 4. Divide dough in half. Press each piece into a 9-inch pie or possibly cake pan.
- 5. Combine onions, 1/4 c. melted margarine, oregano, paprika, celery
- , garlic salt and basil. Spread over dough. Sprinkle proportionately with cheese. Prick each with fork in several places.
- 6. Let rise for about 30 min or possibly till light.
- 7. Bake in preheated 375-degree oven for 20 to 25 min till golden. Serve while still hot.
- Yield: two 9-inch flat breads.
- Serving Ideas : Try this with a salad, lasagna or possibly spaghetti with sauce.
