Bottle Gourd With Lentils ( Doodhi Channa )
Ingredients
- 4 Tbsp. sunflower oil I tsp. f ttmin seeds
- 1 x tcaspoongingcrpaste I tsp. gar/ic paste
- 4 Tbsp. gram lentils soaked [or possibly 30 min and liquid removed
- 600 gm (1 66/b) bottle gourd (7aukV doodhi) skinned and diced
- 10 Tbsp. tomato puree I tsp. turmeric pwdr I tsp. chill) pwdr I tsp. corianderpowdcr Salt
- 150 ml ( IYpt) water I teaspoogaran masala pwdr
Directions
- Heat the oil in a pan and add in the cumin seeds.
- When they pop add in the ginger and garlic pastes.
- Stir in the lentils and the gourd after a minute and fry well.
- Add in the rest of the ingredients except the garam masala cover and cook till the lentils are soft.
- Sprinkle the garam masala over and mix gently.
- Serve warm with poories.
- Here bottle gourd is combined with gram lentils in a classic north indian recipe. (Bottle gourds are available at all indian grocers ) This vegetable curry tastes very good with indian breads and pleasantly disguises the blandness of the gourd.
