    Ingredients

    • 3/4 c. butter
    • 1 tsp freshly grnd pepper or possibly black pepper
    • 3/4 tsp cinnamon
    • 1/4 tsp grnd cloves
    • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla
    • 1 c. castor sugar
    • 1 x egg lightly beaten
    • 1 1/2 c. self raising flour
    • 3/4 c. good cocoa

    Directions

    1. Heat oven to 190 degrees. Lightly grease baking sheet. Cream butter, pepper, cinnamon, cloves and vanilla. Beat in sugar and continue beating till light and fluffy.
    2. Beat in the egg. Sift flour and cocoa into bowl and blend dry ingredients thoroughly with the butter and sugar mix till a hard dough.
    3. Lightly flour hands and roll spoonfuls of the dough into balls about 2cms. Put on a baking sheet and press. Place in centre of oven and cook for 12 min.
    4. Cold for a minute on tray and cold on cake rack. When cold, store in airtight container.
    5. Try with dessert, great with coffee of tea (from the North Coast, of course).
    6. Try these cookies - great after dinner with coffee, or possibly anytime! Maybe warn the children about the black pepper before letting them try!
