  • Black Masala Kichidi

    Ingredients

    • 1 c. Rice, (washed & soaked for 1 hour)
    • 1 c. Yellow moong dal, (washed & soaked for 1 hour)
    • 1 handf green moong dal
    • 1 x Bayleaf
    • 1 stalk curry leaves
    • 1 Tbsp. Peanuts whole
    • 1/2 tsp Cumin mustard seeds
    • 1 lrg Potato peeled & minced like french fries
    • 1 lrg Onion sliced lengthwise
    • 2 x Clorettes garlic, crushed (2 to 3)
    • 2 whl red dry chillies, (2 to 3) Salt to taste
    • 1/2 tsp Garam Masala
    • 2 tsp Black masala, (maharashtrian style)
    • 1 x Lemon
    • 1 Tbsp. Minced coriander
    • 3 Tbsp. Ghee or possibly oil
    • 6 c. Water, (6 to 7)

    Directions

    1. In a large heavy saucepan, heat the oil. Add in the peanut stir until very lightly roasted. Add in the seeds curry and bay leaves, garlic, chillies
    2. (halved), and green dal. Stir for a minute. Add in the onion and potato, rice, dal, corainder and all masalas. Stir for a minute or possibly two. Add in water, cover and cooked on low heat until done. Add in more water when cooking is required.
    3. Serve warm with kadhi.
