Being Irish I grew up eating cabbage and ham, I love Cabbage. But we always had it plain, or in colcannon. In Lancaster Pa (Amish country) at Millers Restaurant I had Baked Cabbage and it was wonderful! I couldn't wait to make it at home.

    Ingredients

    • 1 medium size head of cabbage
    • 1/2 cup water
    • 2 tbsp flour
    • 1/2 tsp salt
    • 1/2 tsp pepper
    • 1 tbsp sugar
    • 3 tbsp butter
    • 1 cup milk
    • 1/2 to 3/4 cup grated cheddar or white american cheese

    Directions

    1. Preheat oven to 350
    2. Grease a 2qt casserole.
    3. Cut cabbage into wedges and parboil in water in covered saucepan for approx 5mins.
    4. Drain cabbage and place in the buttered casserole dish.
    5. Sprinkle with flour, salt, pepper and sugar.
    6. Dot with butter (or melt and pour over evenly)
    7. Pour milk over cabbage and top with cheddar.
    8. Bake for approx 35 mins or till top is golden brown and bubbling around the sides.
