Ingredients

  • 1 (4 ounce) German sweet chocolate
  • 1/2 c. boiling water
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 1 c. butter
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 1/4 c. sifted cake flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 c. Carnation lowfat milk
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 5 egg yolks
  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 c. pecans
  • 1 1/2 c. coconut

Directions

  1. Heat chocolate in boiling water. Cool. Cream butter and sugar till fluffy. Add in large eggs, one at a time, beating well after each. Blend in vanilla and chocolate. Sift flour with soda and salt; add in alternately with buttermilk to chocolate mix, beating after each addition till smooth. Pour into four 9 inch layer pans lined on bottom with paper. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 min. Cool and frost.
  2. Put together lowfat milk, sugar, well beaten egg yolks and butter. Cook and stir over medium heat till it begins to thicken, about 12 min. Add in vanilla, pecans and coconut. Stir occasionally till cool and spread on cake. You will have a good cake and sufficient calories to kill any horse!!
