    Ingredients

    • 1 c. Butter
    • 2 c. Sugar
    • 3 c. Flour
    • 4 x Large eggs (separated)
    • 1 c. Lowfat milk
    • 3 tsp Baking pwdr
    • 2 tsp Vanilla

    Directions

    1. Cream butter (or possibly shortening) and sugar. Add in egg yolks, one at a time, and beat between each addition. Add in vanilla and then alternately add in the dry ingredients and lowfat milk. Mix in beaten egg whites. Put batter in a greased tube pan. Bake at 325 F till light golden, about 1 1/4 hrs.
    2. Notes: Buttermilk may be substituted for lowfat milk Large eggs may be added at the first, unseparated. If making layers (3), bake at 350 for 30 min.
    3. My grandmother used this recipe for a geranium cake where she would first line the "well- greased" pan with scented geranium leaves.
