About me

I'm a male senior citizen and have been fascinated with cooking since a young boy growing up on a farm in Ohio. in the 1940s and 50s. As a young adult in Texas in the 1960's I desired to train to be a chef, but it didn't work out. So all of my adult life I have pursued the hobbies of cooking for friends and collecting over 400 cookbooks. Baking and unique desserts are my favorite areas, but using unusual spice combinations in all areas of cooking fascinates me. I'm fortunate to live in the Dallas area to have access to many ethnic supermarkets, great places to buy spices and exotic ingredients.

Cooking Influences

I was influenced by my mother, an old fashioned country cook on the farm during the 1940s and 1950s. She baked the best homemade bread, never measured the ingredients, strictly by feel, using flour ground from wheat we grew on the farm. She was a perfectionist at baking. She loved doing it to share with those she loved, and that love rubbed off on me.

I understand your desire to be a Chef. My whole life I dreamed of 2 things. #1 going to Alaska to see the bears and ice. #2 opening my own restaurant. Too old for #2 but still working on #1. I love to cook and have an abundance of friends/neighbors who are my food testers. Let's just keep cooking!

You have some great recipes! I too grew up on a farm in Ohio the same years as you and then on to Louisville in teen years. I thought I had a lot of cookbooks until seeing you have a collection of 400. Happy cooking!

I would love to be able to cook as your mother did. I do a little cooking just by taste and feel but I mostly cook by recipes. Have you submited any recipes?

You sound like my Dad who loved to cook and made a career in food service - he was cooking up to the day he passed on. Glad to have you as a cooking buddy!
