Spicy Steamed King Prawns
Prawns are naturally very low in fat, but can be quite high in cholesterol -However, this is still less than a single egg.They're brilliantly versatile - you can swap them out for chicken or fish in most of the dishes you would cook. Prawns are also quite handy as they can be bought ready-cooked or cooked up in a matter of minutes. Don't over-cook them though - they're over done if they curl up very tightly....and tastes rubbery. This recipe involves Fresh king prawns that are steamed in a soy sauce, garlic, a little moderate spice and brandy. Simple and delicious.If kids are eating this then omit brandy and add a bit of rice vinegar.Very healthy yet highly tasty and promisingly addictive! Ingredients
- 20 raw king prawns with shell(if you wish shell them off before steaming)
- 1 tsp vegetable oil
- 2 tablespoons light soy sauce
- 5 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 tsp ginger crushed
- 2 mild red chillies chopped roughly
- 1 twig spring onion,chopped fine
- 1 teaspoon brandy
Directions
- Mix everything together in a bowl and marinate for about 10 mins.
- Fill a pot or wok about half full with water. Place a steamer basket over the water, and bring water to a boil.
- Place the dish with the prawns onto the steamer basket. Cover wok, and steam prawns for 10 minutes, until opaque.
- Serve hot over a bed of steaming hot rice and some fish crackers on the side.
